New Resident Computer Orientation
The following notes are from Dr. Chu's lecture on Computer Resources on July 2, 2007.
SUNET ID - Your Key to Stanford Resources
- You will be given a SUNET ID by the anesthesia department. Please contact Janine if you have any questions about obtaining a SUNET ID.
- STANFORDYOU.STANFORD.EDU
- Create a new alias for yourself, I suggest lastname.firstname@stanford.edu.
- This gives you an easy-to-remember email address.
- Consider if you really need Stanford email or if you should just use email forwarding, or even nothing at all.
- Protect yourself from spammers - you can always change your alias if you are reciving too much spam.
- Control what personal information is released to the public and the Stanford community.
- Set vacation autoresponding and autoforwarding.
- STANFORDWHO.STANFORD.EDU
- Search for information about people who work at Stanford.
CLINICAL RESOURCES
- Email Dr. Kent Garman if you would like acess to the electronic OR schedule. This schedule is distributed around 3-5 pm each day, except weekends. HIPAA confidentiality is required.
- Check ETHER for links to important clinical resources.
- The anesthesia resident syllabus can be found on ETHER in the resources section.
FREE SOFTWARE
- ESS.STANFORD.EDU
- Do you really need Stanford email? I usually do not recommend getting Stanford email because it doesn't stay with you when you leave Stanford. However, if you are going to stay at Stanford or you like to use terminal command programs such as PINE to access your email, then Stanford email may be the way to go.
- Stanford provides free email and virus software to all SUNET ID holders. There are lots of other goodies there as well.
- This website also shows you how to connect to Stanford email from your home computer instead of browsing on the web.
WIRELESS INTERNET
- Available in anesthesia library. The network is anesthesia and it is open without password protection.
- SHC-Public internet connections are available in the ORs. The passcode (if required) is 596Ne.
- Stanford campus-wide wireless internet access is also available. See the IRT website for details on how to obtain access.
